As all the artistic and cultural appointments, Sibelius Festival - Golfo del Tigullio e Riviera, wants to increase the knowledge and stimulate people's curiosity on the artistic production of Finland, Scandinavian Countries, Baltic Republics, Iceland, etc... Jean Sibelius chose to spent some months of 1901 along our coasts, which were for him not only a pleasant destination, but also an inspiration for at least one of his masterpieces: the Second Symphony. Nowadays many people ignore his passage on our Riviera (and many musicians too) and the Nordic/Scandinavian repertoire is generally missing in many great Italian cultural institutions.

 

Among the goals of the Festival

 

The performance and spread of Jean Sibelius' Work, including the wide range of genres from solo instrument to lieder, from chamber ensembles to symphonic orchestra;

 

the first italian performances of new compositions by contemporary Nordic authors or directly commissioned to them;

 

the valorisation of our splendid Riviera and its beauty less and less point of artistic inspiration but almost only a destination during summer holidays for two, three months.

 

How we make them possible

 

The soul of the Festival is a series of dates usually among the late Summer and early Fall, in the most beautiful venues of our Riviera. During the rest of the year we organize conference, concerts to keep alive the interest on us.

 

Meetings, conferences and a monthly newsletter (both in Italian and English) are useful tools to focus on the basic musical and artistic aspects of the festival.

 

We want to embrace many faces of the artistic experience like dance, poetry, literature, painting. This will be starting from the 2017's edition. We consider also to make lessons and concerts for the schools of the towns that are involved.

 

We invite performers both from abroad (especially Scandinavian) and Italy: experienced ones playing together with young talents.

 

We try to involve the local administrations, public and private institutions, promoting with an hard work the importance that art and music have among the priorities of a beautiful and touristic Land.

 

 

We ask you to support us, keeping the Festival as a regular international event which promote Culture as a means of knowledge, communication, expression and suggestion.
