Folke Gräsbeck ha studiato a Turku, Helsinki e Londra. È stato docente presso l’Accademia di Helsinki. Nel ’99 è stato selezionato “Artista dell’Anno” dalla UK Sibelius Society. Dal ‘02 è direttore artistico del festival annuale Sibelius in Korpo. Svolge attività solistica e cameristica in tutta Europa, Egitto, Israele e oltre oceano, collaborando con alcuni tra i più quotati strumentisti europei. Studioso della produzione cameristica di Sibelius (pregevoli i programmi che presenta in Duo con la violinista Satu Jalas, nipote del Compositore) Folke Gräsbeck ha svolto un lungo lavoro di recupero di materiali e autografi, focalizzando un repertorio di oltre 300 composizioni, delle quali 90 inedite, presentate in prima esecuzione e registrate dall’etichetta BIS (10 CD dal ‘99 al ’07 “Sibelius Edition”). Per il 50° anniversario dalla morte di Sibelius, si è esibito in Finlandia, Regno Unito e Giappone, ricevendo un'onoreficienza dall'Accademia di Helsinki per l'alto impegno artistico. L’ampio repertorio presenta, tra gli autori prediletti, D. Shostakovich (concerti per pianoforte e orchestra, Duo, Trii e varia produzione cameristica e liederistica).
Ha inciso una quarantina di CD dedicati a lavori solistici, cameristici e con orchestra. Tiene Corsi e master in Norvegia, Svezia, USA, America del Sud, Messico, ex Unione Sovietica, China... In Italia è stato invitato quale annuale visiting professor presso il Conservatorio di Alessandria nell'a.a. '09.'10. Il '15 lo ha visto impegnato nelle celebrazioni internazionali per i 150 anni dalla nascita di Sibelius, in veste di solista, camerista, solista con orchestra e conferenziere in tournée Europee, oltre ad un'attività di docenza in seminari e masterclass anche in Istituzioni Italiane. E' stato ospite in conferenze e concerti presso il “sibeliusfestival – golfo del tigullio” dalla prima edizione, 2015, divenendone “Artist in residence”.
Per I meriti artistici ha ricevuto la “Sibelius Medal” dalla Società Sibelius di Helsinki: la medaglia fu disegnata da Eila Hiltunen, creatore del famoso monumento a Sibelius ad Helsinki. Si tratta di un importante riconoscimento, nato nel 1965 e destinato ad Artisti, Musicisti, Enti organizzatori... che abbiano svolto un'attività internazionale nel nome di Sibelius. Tra questi: Urho Kekkonen, Aino Sibelius, Herbert von Karajan, Andrew Barnett.

Folke Gräsbeck has performed more than 360 of Sibelius’s c. 600 compositions, and has given the world première performances of 90 of them. He has made numerous recordings for BIS, many of which are included in the company’s complete recorded Sibelius edition. The piano solo music on 10 CDs was commented in Fanfare (US): 'Sibelius’s output for solo piano will likely never again be recorded as comprehensively or as well.” His Sibelius repertoire also includes the Piano Quintet in G minor, the four piano quartets and the complete works for piano trio.

He studied the piano under Tarmo Huovinen at the Turku Conservatory (1962-74) and won first prize in the Maj Lind Competition in 1973. He made numerous study visits to London, where he was taught privately by Maria Curcio-Diamand. He also studied under Prof. Erik T. Tawaststjerna at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and became a Master of Music there in 1997. He has performed some thirty piano concertos and given performances as a recitalist, chamber player and Lied accompanist in the USA, Egypt, Israel, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mexico , China... as well as in many European countries.
On December 2014, At Villa Gyllenberg in Helsinki – one of Finland’s foremost private museums – Folke Gräsbeck was awarded the Sibelius Medal of the Sibelius Society of Finland, presented by Lauri Tarasti, president of the society from 2009 to 2016. This medal has been awarded since 1965 and was designed by Eila Hiltunen, who also created the Sibelius monument. The medal is awarded both to individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements as performers or supporters of Sibelius’s music, as well as to researchers. Previous recipients have included Urho Kekkonen (President of Finland), Aino Sibelius, Herbert von Karajan and many of Finland’s foremost conductors. In 2010 the medal was awarded to Sibelius One’s Andrew Barnett. Folke Gräsbeck is the Artistic Director of the the festival “Sibelius i Korpo” and “Artist in residence” of the “sibelius festival – golfo del tigullio e riviera”, since first edition 2015
